Last year, one team from St Andrews did IMC Prosperity 3. Two people did HKU Avenir and finished top 10 and top 11 in the world — which meant a free trip to Hong Kong. Two people went to London for the Imperial Algothon.
This talk covers what quant actually is, what these competitions look like from the inside, and what we learned from them (including what went wrong). No finance background needed, no maths olympiad required — just curiosity about what people with CS and maths degrees can actually do with them beyond the obvious.
