Hack the Flag! 🚩

Test your cybersecurity skills in the STACS CTF β€” designed by the STACS Dev team. Beginner-friendly challenges sit alongside harder, weirder puzzles for returning players.

What is a CTF?

A Capture The Flag competition is a set of computer security challenges where you're put to the test on your knowledge of security, vulnerabilities and exploits to find hidden flags. Think treasure hunt for hackers.

Categories

  • πŸ” Forensics β€” hunt for hidden data
  • βš™οΈ Engineering β€” take advantage of poor programming
  • 🦠 Cyberwarfare and Malware β€” real examples of real examples (harmless!)
  • πŸ” Cryptography β€” the backbone of security
  • πŸ’£ Exploit Development β€” find and exploit vulnerabilities
  • …and a few surprises we're not going to spoil πŸ˜‰

Format

  • Duration: 4 hours, 13:00–17:00
  • Team size: 1–4 people (or solo β€” both fine)
  • Difficulty: beginner to advanced
  • Scoring: points scale with challenge difficulty
  • Location: John Honey β€” snacks and a live leaderboard on-site

Prizes

A stuffed animal for the first-place team, plus STACS swag on the podium.

New to CTFs?

A short beginner's workshop runs at the start of the event, and mentors from the Dev team will be on hand throughout. Just show up β€” you don't need a team in advance.

Rules

  1. No attacking infrastructure β€” only the challenges we provide.
  2. Collaboration within teams only β€” no sharing flags between teams.
  3. Write-ups welcome β€” after the competition ends.
  4. Have fun and learn.
